Energy Equity Protection -- Design Services

Maximize Total System Performance

Gaining full value out of any photovoltaic system starts with optimized system design. Satcon®'s Design Services organization will guide you through all phases of project development using our broad experience and engineering skills. Ranging from design consulting to complete end-to-end system design, our Design Services Team can help ensure that your system is designed to deliver optimum performance across its entire twenty-plus year life span.

The Industry's Most Expert and Experienced Large-Scale Systems Designers

Level 1: Engineering Consulting Services

Our engineering consulting services can provide you with an early assessment of your design plan and system architecture. For this Level 1 offering, we will advise you on the following aspects of your project:

Selection of Location

  • For roof-mounted systems, this would include proper layout over multiple sloped sections, and positioning of the array to keep point loading and dead-loads within structural limits.
  • For ground-mounted systems, the appropriate array location would depend on the terrain and the proximity to nearby trees or structures.

Selection of Individual Components, Including Panels, Sub-Combiners and Inverters

  • Our engineers will recommend the type of photovoltaic module best suited to your project and ensure that each Balance of System component's ratings are in line with system requirements.

Solar Array Design

  • Our preliminary array design will include recommended module tilt angles, array azimuth, module packing density (W/m2) and mounting hardware best suited for your application.
  • We will also provide you with a preliminary photovoltaic yield forecast based on the initial design.

Level 2: Complete End-to-End System Design and Documentation

As follow-on to Level 1, or by itself, our Design Services Team can provide you with a complete design solution for your system. The Level 2 package includes:

Drawings and Documentation
  • Single-line electrical drawings
  • PV array layout drawings
  • Grounding plans/drawings
  • Array mounting structure drawings
  • Inverter/transformer selection and layout plan
  • Utility interface drawings for low voltage and medium voltage
  • Triple-line AC electrical drawings
  • Managing and implementing the grid-connection application process
  • Wire lists
  • Bill of Materials
  • Data acquisition systems design and interfaces for monitoring services
Performance Forecasts
  • Performance simulations using PVSol or PVsyst to provide bankable estimates of energy production
  • Support for performance ratio analyses and assessments that will illustrate and promote the key investment criteria
