"This project was so complex. It involved three different module technologies and so many different angles to the sun. We were faced with the prospect of using dozens of inverters scattered throughout the building. When I realized that the Solstice architecture could handle the entire job, I was really amazed. It has made an exciting project even more amazing. I always thought of Satcon as a leader in large scale ground mount PV. Now with Solstice, I believe they can really lead in BIPV as well, which will be a huge, emerging market."
-- Scott Burton, CEO of Parity SolarLarge Scale System Flexibility
Satcon’s Solstice® system, the first complete power harvesting and management solution for utility-scale solar power plants, was selected by Parity Solar for their 184 kilowatts (kW) rooftop installation. The Solstice system enabled Parity Solar to achieve the system flexibility to mix different PV technologies, without compromising the overall energy harvesting efficiencies. Free from the typical constraints of uniform strings and singular panel type that a traditional inverter design would present, Parity Solar was able to gain the ability to break the 184 kW building array into small, manageable increments to optimize panel utilization by 17%.

The key challenge for this project was selecting a solution that would maximize the energy output while working with the constraints of a rooftop installation. Okanagan College was faced with challenges such as; localized shading, modules with varying angles to the sun, and the need to maximize panel utilization within a limited space.Largest PV System in Western Canada
SkyFire Energy and Okanagan College selected Satcon’s Solstice system, the industry’s first complete power harvesting and management solution for utility-class solar power plants, to power Okanagan College’s 260 kW kilowatts (kW) rooftop installation. This installation powers Okanagan College’s newest educational facility—the “Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Building Technologies and Renewable Energy Conservation”. The decision to deploy a rooftop solar PV system on the campus’ newest building was an easy one for Okanagan College as the climate and rooftop were ideally suited for solar energy.
